devlog #1 - New upgrades, items and orders

Hey fellow smiths! It's been a week since I launched an initial prototype, and I've been hammering away at new features to make this game shine! Here's what's been forged in the development fires:

๐Ÿ”จ Upgrade & Effect System

The forge has gotten more powerful! I've implemented an upgrade system where you can enhance your tools and abilities (it still pretty simple for now but there is a lot of room for adding more cool stuff later). Your hammer can now be upgraded to improve your forging capabilities, giving you better progression during minigames and increasing your chances of crafting quality items.

๐Ÿ† New Item Tiers

No longer limited to basic weapons! The forge now supports multiple tiers of items with varying complexity and value. From common iron axes to shiny steel greatswords, each tier presents more challenges and better rewards (yeah, only gold coins for now lol). Master your craft to unlock and create increasingly valuable gear!

๐Ÿ“œ Item Orders System

The kingdom now relies on your smithing skills! A new order system brings requests from clients (and in the near future, even the Queen herself). Complete these orders to build your reputation and earn greater rewards. Each successful delivery increases your coin's pouch

๐Ÿ’ฐ Quality-Based Pricing

Your craftsmanship matters! Items now receive price bonuses based on their quality. The better you perform in forging minigames, the higher the quality percentage, directly increasing your profits.

โœจ Quality of Life Improvements

  • Several smaller enhancements have been added to make the smithing experience more enjoyable:
  • Better feedback during forging minigames
  • Adjustments to the difficulty of the minigames based on your skill level
  • Visual improvements to the forge interface

What's next on the anvil?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure. I'm still exploring the best way to develop a game and I like what I'm doing so far: I'm going with the flow and I'm not overthinking the game mechanics. I tried to have a full backlog of features before but this only hindered my progress and my creativity.

I can give a possible list of features I'll be adding in the future, but I am not sure when or in what order:

  • More upgrades such as increasing max quality percentage, increasing the chance to get special hits, etc.
  • Queen's Impatience: The Queen will now request items from you, adding a new layer of depth and challenge to your smithing career. If you don't deliver the requested item, the royal wrath will be unleashed upon your small business.
  • Tweaks to the gameplay loop: I still need to fix some flaws in the gameplay loop, such as the fact that you can craft items without a cost, there's no losing condition yet, and there isn't a good risk/reward system yet.

Some of these are game design flaws and I'll probably tackle them first.
